FAQ

Q?

Why are people so skeptical of hypnosis?

A.

Some people are skeptical of hypnotherapy because they associate it with stage hypnosis, it is important to remember that what you see on the stage is simply a show, and NOT therapy. People think that we have the ability to take control over the clients mind and have them do anything; however we know that this is not the case in reality. In fact you can not be made to do anything against your values, morals or beliefs.

Q?

Can I be hypnotized against my will?

A.

No, anyone can resist being hypnotized and it won't work. Hypnosis is cooperation between two people - your therapist will show you the way and you can choose if you want to go there or not. Always feel free to talk about any questions or worries you may have about hypnosis anytime. We utilize hypnosis because it allows us a very good way of communicating with the sub-conscious and the communication is constructed according to the outcome you wish to achieve. So come prepared to go into a nice deep state of hypnosis and you will benefit that much faster from your sessions.

Q?

How does it feel to be hypnotized?

A.

Everyone is different. Some people say that their body feels like a lead weight, others say they feel as though they're floating away. Most people will agree that it's a lovely feeling because they are more relaxed then they have ever been before.

Q?

What is hypnosis?

A.

Hypnosis is an altered state of awareness during which our subconscious mind is more open and receptive to suggestions that are given. We drift in and out of different levels of awareness many times each day, absorbing information on a subliminal level as well as consciously. Your hypnotherapist will work with your powers of intelligence, imagination and concentration on a subconscious level to help you achieve your goals.

Q?

Will I have to relive traumatic events from my past during hypnotherapy?

A.

Not necessarily, but if you feel there's a time or event that affects how you are now, it can be helpful to revisit it. You can decide this with your therapist's help. For example, you may go back to your first day of school, when you may have felt abandoned, rejected, frightened and insecure after being left there by a parent you implored not to leave you. Or maybe you'll go back to when you were eleven years old and overheard your parent's friend comparing you unfavorably with a sibling.

Hypnotherapy can give you surprisingly immediate links with past and present personal circumstances. Constructively and positively, you discover that it was as painful and traumatic for your parents to leave you on that first day at school as it was for you. It did not mean they were abandoning you; they still loved you in the same way.

Q?

Are there any side effects from hypnosis?

A.

The only side effects are the beneficial ones of feeling more relaxed afterwards and feeling more positive about whatever it was you sought hypnotherapy for. Hypnosis is a perfectly natural state of awareness that offers a host of positive benefits for those that choose to participate.

Q?

How do I know that I will wake up from hypnosis?

A.

No-one has ever remained in hypnosis indefinitely. Even if something were to happen to the hypnotherapist halfway through the session, you would still 'come out' of the trance state once rapport had been broken or you would simply fall asleep to awaken later refreshed.

Q?

Will I remember everything after a hypnotherapy session?

A.

Do you usually remember everything that happens? Your memory will work as it usually does, except that you will find it easier to access memories. Generally speaking most people do remember either everything or certain parts of the experience. You will find that suggestions which have been given to you in hypnosis will resurface in your conscious thinking mind after your hypnosis session and these will be the thoughts that produce positive changes in your behavior or way of thinking and feeling.

Q?

How long does it take to see results using hypnotherapy?

A.

With hypnotherapy you can usually start to see results after your very first session. Each session lasts on average between 45min to 75min with the number of sessions required generally varying anywhere from three to eight depending on what you set out to achieve.

Q?

Will I lose control while I’m hypnotized?

A.

No hypnotherapy is a process of negotiation and persuasion. You are in control each and every step of the way. You are very aware of everything both you and your therapist say and in most cases you will remember everything said. You will not do anything, or act in any way, that is contrary to what you would do in full conscious awareness. It is very different from stage hypnosis, where the hypnotist embeds in the subconscious a command that causes people to act differently and not to remember what they did.

Q?

How can hypnosis help me?

A.

Many people find hypnotherapy helps them get on top of one particular aspect of their lives, such as improving their confidence and self-esteem; feeling free from anxiety and panic attacks; tackling a specific challenge such as public speaking, an interview, or a driving test; achieving long-term goals such as losing weight, smoking cessation or nail-biting; beating a fear; or simply moving on from not believing they can succeed. It is basically an extremely effective form of life coaching with well over 200 positive applications available.

Q?

But how exactly does hypnotherapy work?

A.

The therapist uses a form of words that encourages the mind to relax, giving you access to your subconscious and allowing a prime time to suggest things to it. But the key point is, that it is you who allows your mind to go into this state; a hypnotherapist can neither induce it nor keep you in a state of hypnosis against your will. Going into hypnosis relies on your interest and willingness to be guided into this different state of consciousness.

Q?

What’s the difference between hypnosis and hypnotherapy?

A.

Hypnosis is a deep state of relaxation. If you've tried meditation or yoga, you may have experienced something like it, as these can induce a mild form of hypnosis. Hypnotherapy is the process that takes you into this relaxed state and combines it with therapy to help you let go of those negative thoughts and feelings, and replace them with positive ones.

Q?

How is what you see during stage hypnosis different from Hypnotherapy?

A.

I can remember when I was younger and first saw people embarrassing themselves on stage under hypnosis, I thought to myself: 'How can this be a beneficial therapy?' But forget swinging pendulums and animal impersonations because hypnotherapy is in fact very different from stage hypnosis. Rather than triggering you to act out of character then forget what you've done which stage hypnotists do by embedding a command to this effect. Hypnotherapy works with your intentions and subconscious knowledge to help you overcome a block, work through a problem or to help you achieve a specific goal.
